The M38A1 was the last true military Jeep Willys produced (Willys did make a small number of M151 "Mutts" but there is some debate as to calling it a Jeep). After 1958 the majority of M38A1s being produced were exported.

M38A1 Identifying Characteristics:

Data Plates: brass plates riveted to a rectangular plate that is screwed to the dash

Windshield Frame: one piece windshield, square tube frame, frame attached by hinges to the body

Body: no Willys stamped into hood, no tailgate*, hood has cutout on passenger side for snorkel option, battery box located on passenger side cowl in front of windshield

Grill:
The M38A1 was the first Jeep to feature the rounded fender and hood look
that remained virtually unchanged through the Jeep CJs of the 1980's. Like
the M38, the M38A1 had a 24V, waterproof, electical system.
